thanks andyz and jeff,

acoll123, yes I do crop but like what Scott has said you can crop quite a bit with the newer cameras. If you have a 300 matched with the 4 you will be fine, just stay closer to the action. In the second image I posted (receiver catching the ball) I was on the opposite side of the field on about the 35 yard line and he caught the ball on about his 30 yard line, so I was about 60 yards away. It has a lot of crop. On #4 I was in the back of the endzone and he was about on the 30 so I was around 40-45 yards away.

The photo below was taken this evening I was directly across the field, so maybe 50 yards I have only downsized for web use. The second photo is how it was cropped, so yes I do crop and sometimes I need to crop even more.

If you have the funds for a 400 then by all means get it, you will not be sorry

Andy

Thanks - I might start watching the forum for a deal on a 400/2.8 ver 1, I guess a few people are trading up to the newer version . . .

I posted some HS football images in this thread and explained a little about why I prefer the 400. If all you can afford is a 300 then you should be fine cropping from a Mark 4 body. For me, if I have to choose between a 400 or 300 for field sports I'm going with the 400.

Good luck this season!

Thanks Scott
