I'm looking for a recomendation for a good slider to take with me into the backcountry when shooting video with my DSLR. Ideally want something light, yet very functional and 24" or so in lenght.
Thanks!

Cinevate makes the best sliders. Here's a model that you can also modify to do vertical lifts and descents.

I use Kessler Crane gear for my video work, they have a motorized system for their slide and their dolly system.

For travel I would recommend the Konova 23.6" slider. Very light and sturdy. I strap it to my back pack and it works perfectly for travel.
