p.2 #1 · Need 1 to 2 Stops in Lower Light - On Monopod & Tripod

Epilogue:

I just ordered the Canon 5D3 kit with the 24-105 and Grip at Adorama for $4,300.

I could have skipped the lens and/or the grip, but it was the best deal I saw right now, since the double rewards expired. Really bad timing on my part.

Now I just need to add the 70-200 2.8 IS II, the 24-70 II when it starts to ship, and the 600RT.

(My wife fried one of my 550EX flashes yesterday when she took it off without turning the flash off. She felt really bad, so I get that one with no problems.)

Heck, that is only $9K right? OK, add the 135 or 200 too ... Next rebates not till Xmas?

Thanks for all of the knowledgable and focused advice. FM really is a great place!

Cheers,
Michael

Thanks.

I was going to quote individual posts and reply. Instead I'll try to cover specific points alltogether here:

1) Tripod/monopod: I have a tear in my right shoulder socket, and 4 bad disks in my neck. I closed my studio a few years ago because of that. So I definitely need the monopod/tripod for most of the shoot.

2) 1/125 to 1/250: Thanks, that is **exactly** what I need! Both to get control over stage motion, and to have some artistic/creative choices in exposure and ISO.

3) 5D2 vs 5D3: Thank you for the comments. The updated video functions on the 5D3 tips

You are welcome here. Good luck and a great time with this new challenge. I am pretty sure you do not have to hide yourself, neither your results. Living is learning and love. We all can learn from each other. And I am really looking forward for your pictures. I love to refresh my orientation and you already gave me an idea for a new "project" on my own.

Thank you Ralph!

I looked at your site. You have some great images. Thanks you for sharing those and your experience!

I agree with you about love & life. I have 13 year old, and I am old enough to have found more value in family and friends than in more competitive/work related "accomplishments."

I have also barely taked an image that I like in 30+ years as a serious & professional photographer. I am just too, too critical of myself. Too much ego involvement I think. But I still love everything about photography, and I love the process of making images.

I closed my studio 5 years ago and have not done more than 3-4 jobs since then. Starting over now at 53.

One small idea I am hoping to try with the performances is to hang some strobe heads with the stage lighting to soften shadows. I would like to fire those remotely via Pocket Wizard.

I will have to test it in practice of course, but the ability to freeze motion and soften the stage lighting myself is very exciting. If nothing else, I will have them run through a concert at rehearsal with full studio-type lighting, at ISO 100, using flash to freeze motion.

I have both AC & battery packs (Broncolor Topas & Mobil) taht I can set up. I love high quality studio work!

Cheers! Thanks again.

Michael
