These are all from one beautiful morning in early July during our annual trip to Maine. Five Islands is a small harbor town in the mid-coast area. It seems to get a lot of marine layer fog in the morning that comes in and out among the small islands that form the protected harbor area. The light this morning was amazing--constantly changing from dawn through the next two hours. By 7:00 a.m. it was time to wrap things up and go get some blueberry pancakes!
These were taken using a D700. My 70-300VR was on the camera most of the morning, although I did also use by 24-70. Saved these as sRGB, so hopefully the colors will be OK.
If you get the chance to get to the Maine mid-coast area, I would definitely recommend a visit to Five Islands for dawn.
All comments, critiques, suggestions, etc., are appreciated.
Very, very nice. The light is wonderful and your photos reflect that. My wife wants us to visit Maine next year and Five Islands will definitely be on the list. Thanks!

Really nicely done. Don't you just love that summer fog?
David: I can't tell you how much I envy your regular access to the Maine coast. Wish I could shoot there all year round. But that summer fog is wonderful. It rolled in and out a couple of times the morning I was at Five Islands. The light and colors were constantly changing--I had a great morning. Hard for me to pick just 4 to share.
You've got a great series here, capturing the feel of the fog and dawn, the working atmosphere. Super job with the exposures! Second wins it for me, with that great light in the windows of the foreground boat. Love the last too, with the island in the clear in the distance.

Dave, these are gorgeous. Love the early morning mood and your execution is top notch on these. You have some nice prints to hang on your wall with these. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks to Rolf, Morris, Jim, tjny, Andrew, Bev, Scott(s), dalite, Keith, Greg, Jerry, Aaron, David(s), Mike and Jim. Thanks for taking the time to comment and let me know which were the most interesting for you. I appreciate all your comments.
It's always interesting to me to find out which ones from a set people respond to. Looks like #2 and #4 were the most popular, but there was a nice distribution of "likes". Thanks again.
