I shoot mainly MF lenses so need the LiveView quite often.

OK, but I'm not sure how that helps for motorsports

I basically own Zeiss MF lenses in the 15-100mm range. That is my main purpose for the camera. Motorsports is much less frequent. As I have said before, I'm not looking at buying a new camera or getting a second. The 200L wasn't bad at all on my 5D2 so I'm assuming a 300 2.8 will be no worse

A lot has to do where you find a spot to shoot from...when you get to know the track...this shot is with a 5Dc + 300 f/4L IS + 1.4x at Road Atlanta just coming out from under the bridge...I can get fairly close at this location...

This shot is the 5Dc + 300f/4 IS without the TC from a more difficult location...

This shot is with a 1.6 crop body...the old outdated 30D + 300 f/4L IS...

All shots are from the wrong side of the fence...

I sold my 100-400 for the 300 f/4L IS several years ago for the ease of handling...MFD of the 300 for other things...cost as compared to what I think is the best long glass for motorsports, the 500 f/4L IS...now that has some reach for motorsports...it will also reach into your pocket, but if I was going to eat what I shoot so to speak, that's what I would use...

I can put a 1.4x on my old 30D with the 300 and get decent reach if needed...

The 300 f/4L IS won't break the bank and has decent IQ ...does sound "clunky" as it does it's thing, but around racecars, who cares?

I usually keep the 300 on the 30D and a 70-200 f/4 IS on the 5D at the track and bring a 17-40 f/4L for use on either body if and when needed...add the 1.4x and I have most of the required FLs for motorsports covered...on a budget...
