I picked up the RRS L-bracket for the 5D III.

very nice
-- well made & not too heavy when shooting off tripod
-- camera strap mounts to camera and not the L-bracket
-- port access works for cables with L-bracket
-- big help for camera/tripod balance when shooting vertical

I, too, am happy with the RRS L Brackets for my 7Ds and 5D III, all with battery grips. And the bracket gives a bit more of a safety margin to protect the cameras when I'm climbing around in rugged country and other such stuff.

Just got my L Bracket. 5DIII with battery grip. Really well made and really well designed. I have the RRS Versa 24L tripod and BH 55 head. This is a great combo. I'm going to be happy with it I am sure. I would not hesitate to recommend the L bracket. Even shooting in portrait (vertical) hand held, the curve of the bracket and the way the bracket thins and trails off gives it great conformity and comfort around the battery pack. BZ Really Right Stuff!
