I like Photoshop's ability to open RAW as Smart Object.

Hey if you think you're hobby is getting to expensive. GET ANOTHER HOBBY! Many people enjoy fishing or gerdening.
While not as expensive as photography, fishing is not exactly cheap either, or I should say you can make it as expensive as you want. One of my Daiwa reel alone is already 500 bucks and it's not even high end. Fishing jigs are around $25 a pop, and on a bad day you can lose quite a few of them... Damn Leatherjackets!!! My uncle's fishing gear is worth probably close to 10 grand.
I suppose you can buy a cheapy fishing gear but then again, that's no different than buying a P&S.

I think your analogy holds up with sportsfishing VS hobby photography, but not with pros.
Down here in FL, quite a bit of commercial fishing is done with line and handreels which cost about $5. Long-liner's biggest investment besides the boat and fuel is several hundred bucks per haul in hooks, line, and bait. No $3,500 Daiwa electric reels for most of these guys. Likewise, lobsters are caught commercially with traps that cost about $30 each and can haul in 8 or 10 bugs a night. Sports lobster diving will set you back easily $1,500 in dive gear alone. OTOH, most pro photographers I know spend quite a bit more on gear than their amateur counterparts.
I know that fishing can be expensive for the serious or pro fisherman, but unlike photography not everyonr that buys a rod thinks that "they too" can be a pro. On the plus side, I have never heard a fisherman complain like these guys. In fact I've never heard a fisherman complain. "A bad day fishin' is still better..........

Well that's the context in which I replied. Didn't you read the part of Osai's post that said "Get another hobby!!"?
And not if the counterpart is someone like PetKal. I bet there are plenty of amateurs with gear that many pros can only dream of... or at least wish they have.
One thing to be in mind though. If you don't upgrade from CS5 to CS6 you are likely to be either stuck on cs5 or be forced to pay FULL price for the next version of photoshop. Adobe tried to change the upgrade policy this time round so that cs4 was not part of the upgrade. They had to backtrack on that but you can bet next time round they won't be so charitable.
