I was working on a video shoot and noticed this little guy hanging out on the roof of a 1800's shack in the little town/village of Bloomfield (Northern California). He wasn't phased by us, so I wondered if he might have been ill. However I think he may have just been an old fox that was used to the sleepy little town. I looked back about ten minutes after taking this shot and he was gone.
I have no idea what type of fox this is. Anyone else able to shed some light?
Shot with my D7000 and 135 f/2 DC... had to crop a tad, but not much as we were able to get pretty close.

A gray fox, I should think? I'm no expert, but I do know there's a fox labelled that, and I'd hardly consider it surprising if that's what that one is.

1. Nice shot, great pose.
2. Definately a gray fox. They can climb almost as well as a cat. It is actually unusual to see one in daylight as they are mostly nocturnal.
3. I would LOVE to see an enlargement of his head/neck area, as the shot seems to me to show traces of a white flea collar on his neck. He might be someone's free roaming pet.
