Mine's fine...I am sure they will rectify for those that aren't happy. It's a problem clearly, but where as the 1DmkIII issue was an issue with a core competency (fast accurate continuous autofocus issues no matter what focus point), this seems a bit minor in comparison.
That's said if mine wasn't working I would still be pretty angry.

i just wonder what those guys who complain were doing in manual focus times.
i am more angry about D600 not having second front button then some minor AF issue on D800.
Whether the issue impacts someones ability to image is not the point here.
However, the issue existing and being widespread as it is puts into question Nikon quality (control) and the lack of acknowledgement there integrity. It is prevalent enough that of the 3 Nikon D800s I've had. 2 exhibit the issue and the 3rd one very well might if I test it.
My concern with the camera having this issue is the possible resale value of the product. For what its worth, not everyone here is a professional and don't make money from this hobby. I do care about what others think about Nikon and the D800 specifically.
nikon have no quality control since about 3 years. Well my experience anyway.
AF issue is by me very minor, never see it disturb me beyond normal AF jitter and can reproduce it only with 2 out of 4 D800s when i am really trying
Other widespread issues i didn't have.
I had a another though. Imprecise mount on one cam, flash not working on another. And my oldest one, lost battery doors, had to fixed it.

Mine originally went to El Segundo and tagged as B2, it came back worse. Now it's at Melville and marked B2. Wait and see what happens!

Well other manufacturers have problems too, fair enough. But I got into Nikon because of quality and so far issue free (I don't have an 800)
I have a small interest in the 800; but issues like these diminish NAS, because who needs aggravation.

+1 Exactly why I won't order a 800E until all these issues get fixed.

As usual a great shot from TM. I believe some D800 bodies do have AF issues, but many reports are due to user error and/or faulty testing. Even with bodies with mild AF issues, I have seen some great images made. Again, it is the pair of eyes behind the lens that matters most along with technique.
However, I should warn guys about TM. He makes shooting good images look effortless, but then one needs many years to develop solid techniques like him. Don't let his great examples fool you other wise.

You quite clearly have the problem. 1,253rd blade of grass across from the left is OOF.

Thanks: Andre, Maji, Rags, Kevin, Joe, DJ, and Tim.
This combo WILL be doing the Bosque this season, as I'm FL challenged...again.
It'll be ok, however. I can get close(r) and crop the crap outta these files. The metering
and AF are something else! Nikon's helpin' the no PP primate look pretty good so far.
