We are heading back to CA in a couple of weeks. There haven't been too many birding ops this time, so when we go through AZ I was hoping to take advantage of the birding there. I googled birding areas and found that Madera Canyon and Sierra Vista are good birding locations. It is soooo hot there though. Any suggestions. It would just be a stop over, so it may not be worth the detour in the heat. We usually go through Flagstaff which is beautiful too.
Our laptop crashed so I can only do minimal PP with my other laptop. Here are some of our AR backyard friends. Thanks for looking.

dorian sums it up quite nicely!
Sierra Vista may be a little warm, but once you get up into some of the canyons, you gain elevation and some slightly cooler temps. If you're lucky enough to catch a nice monsoon storm this time of year (which se Az has been getting a lot of lately) temps will drop considerably in a matter of minutes.

Flagstaff is beautiful right now. Head up the mountain and hike any of the trails, or go down the hill and hike into the West Fork (of Oak Creek).
We might end up there. There is a great KOA campground there. I'd like to try going south, but my husband doesn't want to face the higher heat.

I STILL don't have one of either of these! Nice nice!!
Thanks Conrad. I told everyone I wasn't leaving Arkansas without a picture of the male Cardinal. They aren't used to coming to our kids yard, so they are a bit skiddish.
