In case you are interested in the biology, your Old World "Little Owl" (Athene noctua) is closely related to another FM favorite, the New World "Burrowing Owl" (Athene cunicularia). They are almost identical, with a major exception that the New World species lives in holes in the ground. Here's a photo of burrowing owls taken in the desert of Southern California:
These owls can hunch up or stretch out, plus yours are babies. Here's a photo of another pair of adults from the desert--taken on a cold day, when they are hunched up to stay warm.
