the winthrop least tern colony has been a goldmine of late! here is developmental progression from egg to adult that i have recently put together.......

least tern nest - left egg has started to hatch! (i didn't stick around to watch so the adult would return)

very recently hatched - not moving much

starting to hop around a bit

moving a bit more

a few more - in full disclosure the fledged bird (#7) was taken last year but was included since very few of this year's young have yet fledged.

gaining confidence!!!

starting to get flight feathers........

fully fledged!!!

full adult (well, he didn't hatch this year, but he was included to show the endpoint!)

An excellent set Dorian. You can see the confidence grow from the chicks posture. The puffballs sure are cute, and you have done well showing the growth too ~ Ron
