Seward- at the small-boat harbor.
A family of river otters fished in the oceanic bay, snoozed on the boat docks, and denned under one of the buildings at water's edge.
Scans from slides were a bit rough .
Thanks guys and doll ().
The third was a quick grab shot because I barely saw it coming. The family lived under there, and weren't headed for a dumpster. They only liked fresh fish, which they readily caught in the harbor.
The first two happened when I was walking on the floating docks and saw this big river otter lounging on a boat's stern, making a mess of a small rug.
He saw me of course, but I was able to approach him to within about 25-30 feet. I stopped there because I didn't want to scare him off, and I knew that my 70-210 lens would bring him in.
Because river otters are in constant motion, he assumed several positions before sliding into the water and disappearing.
I don't know about him, but I had a fun encounter.

I love otters...I think its because they use their paws/hands in an almost human like manner when eating...actually exactly like how my kids eat...even still
Really nice shots Charlie...

Thanks Eric, Ken, Frog, Conrad and Al.
Like most people, most of what I've seen about river otters is from nature shows, and they seem to spend all their time playing. Watching this guy messing up the boat's deck rug supported the idea, and his facial expressions were certainly mischievous.
Frog says his favorite is #4. Since there are only 3 images here, I'm hoping he meant #3 . If Ron had said it, I'd have assumed the worst- but I'll assume that Frog is a gentleman . (Sorry. Ron, but I haven't insulted you for more than a week- it was time ).
