I was in Jasper a few weeks ago and had the opportunity to photograph the most beautiful Black Bear. All of the others I had seen were small and scrawny and then we ran across this behemoth! I don't think he had slept much over the winter or he hibernated with a dead caribou because he was huge and FAT.
He sat on a small hill for about 10 minutes letting me photograph him.
I have yet to encounter a Black Bear as lovely as this
Good capture Keith. That is indeed a magnificent animal and a huge bear (250-300lb mark) in unusually peak condition for time of year. This is indeed a trophy class animal and small ears like that indicate he is a very mature animal. A rare find. Certainly acted like he was cock of the rock and seemed a very accommodating photo subject. Nice work and great exposure capturing the details in the hide, all great images.
