I really like the dark back grounds as well, I have started experiencing more with my off camera flash and make shift barn doors to try and get that sort I effect more often. Nothing great has happened with it yet but I will get there. #5 was shot with a remote flash off to the left with a simple diffuser on it. I liked the result of it now I need to try a few more and get it right with selective light.
The first is nice, if you could have moved a bit to your left to have the OOF peddle be the background for the moth, then it would stand out better. The second is nice; possibly clone out the bright spot in the upper right. The third is nice; if possible when taking flower photos remove distracting leaves/peddles such as the one coming in from the right. 4 is very nice. the detail in the lower flower is great, a bit more DOF and you could have that for the upper one that is pulling my eye. 7 is at a nice angle, the background is too busy and the flower behind the flower in the upper left is not helping. 8 has great detail, it takes a moment to spot the insect. Possibly you could make it a bit brighter. 9 need a touch more DOF for the entire peddle to be in focus. 10 has great detail yet the background is not helping. 10 is my pick of the set. Possibly darken the few leaves. 11, pretty nice, rotating the camera a little would allow you to create a nice diagonal of the two main flowers or of the little one on top and the big one on the bottom.
