This evening I had to start baiting my stunt pijuns otherwise they wouldn't have participated in my 1DX AF test program. A few more days of this kind of cooperation, and I should finally gain a pretty good understanding of the AF capability on this target type.
The key motion I am really after is a straight head-on shot, ie., a minimum target cross section and a maximum rate of focusing distance change, with a non-vacant background whenever possible.
However, in the process I tend to shoot anything that I can get.
Four test shots from the first session are posted here as an illustration of the process.
Great wing action on that last group Peter. At the risk of over sharing, here are 2 from the local pond last night. I'm not sure but the duck in the 2nd image seems to be saying "I fart in your general direction!"

Here is a couple of first "production" shots taken with 1DX and 300 f/2.8 IS MkI.
I wish I had a longer lens for the swallow action, but that's one of those things......perfect for one type of encounter, too long or too short for something else.

Thanx Shreeni, on my way to the Heron pond tomorrow morning I'll stop by that place with the 800L, if the swallows are still there. I could have tried to get closer to the birds even with the 300mm, but didn't want to risk disturbing them for the sake of some insignificant pictures.
