The upper one is the old church (435 AD) in Portovenere, but yes Petkal is right, the second one is Manarola. Beautiful area to go to, although it can be a little crowded at times.
@ Paul, beautiful images, roses are a favorite and those are both velvety smooth specimens!
And I completely agree, the 100 non-L mac is a superb value, one has been in my bag since the late 90s.
@ 15bit, wow, love the medieval tourney shots, the images out of the 5Dc really are amazing and your captures of the action tell of great and fun games, nicely done!
@ Willy, breathtaking evening shots, worthy of framing and displaying proudly...stunning imagery
@ Patrick, You caught Kelly Slater in a classic kick turn, great surfing action from the Open, great images!
@ Doctorbird, that 2nd seagull image, beak open, deep blue sky, great capture/image!
This is quite the thread, y'all inspire, take me to places I'll never see first hand! The wonders of this world are quite amazing when captured and shared by true masters of the shutter...bravo everyone!
The 5D makes me look better than i really am at this photography malarky - its a really super bit of kit. Unusually i had to put quite a bit of effort into the processing on the tourney shots though. The strong flat light from the overcast sky didn't combine well with the darker ground and shiny armour.
I'm going to echo your sentiment on the thread, and indeed all these threads over the last 15 months or so - there is a diversity in imagery on these seasonal threads that we just don't see in other threads and boards here on FM.
Noisy file, but then this is a 100% crop from a high ISO shot.
The only way I can get 600 mm: 300 Mk II and 2x Mk III.
Today I did some shooting with the 1DX, then moved "backward" to the 1D4 (used it for this shot), and finished by doing some with the 1D3. Interesting experience.
(1) A long range shot of a Wood pijun hen in her environment.
(2) Passer domesticus hen......it has just dawned on me that those birds are all around us, and yet I do not have any nice shots of them, I guess because they are being ignored as a "worthwhile" target. That is not good, because skilled photography can make something out of "nothing".

Photon,
Just noticed the mosquito on the squirrels ear. Great timing.
You mentioned having an "interesting experience" when moving backwards from the 1Dx -> 1D4 -> 1D3... If you don't mind, would you please share those experiences with us? Or, PM me..... I'm really interested to hear/read your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

...you mean like the difference between carefully preparing for and taking the perfect picture of a duck. as opposed to discovering and capturing the essence of this duck in her momentary repose?
In this sense, I find the essence of Ms. Wood Pijun above captured lovingly in her momentary repose.

Thank you, John, glad you like it.
There are many dilemmas of photography, e.g., does one pre-plan shots and then follow a rigid rule, or one responds casually to whatever develops, or does one try to do both ? I try not to overthink my shots, and I generally respond to ad hoc developments. However, prior lens/camera selections are usually governed by some consideration of what I am likely to ancounter and what my goals might be for the day. Very seldom I take more than one lens with me, however, 1.4xTC is also in the bag just in case. Yet, it happens relatively often to me that I have too long a lens on the camera, and it's not common that I might wish for a longer lens or more of that "reach".
