I am in the market for a tripod and head that is sturdy, and light. I need it to support 20lbs max. Will be carrying it into the field. I would appreciate recommendations for which I should consider. I am primarily interested in shooting wildlife.
The standard axiom is that there are 3 things you need: light weight, sturdiness, and low cost. You can have any two... Some general recommendations though:
If you plan on getting a long lens, you need a very sturdy tripod, and without a center column.
A gimbal head is highly recommended too.
Get one that you can use without having to stoop too much - that gets very uncomfortable quickly.
I'm sure others will add more stuff and specific recommendations too ~ Ron
Birdie, is this the setup you use to get those amazing macro shots? Wow. Some of the most exciting photography I've ever seen.
Thank you very much. Yes, most of the macro are with the Induro Tripod CT 213 and the Jobu Jr3 gimbal.
This combo works wonderfully with everything up to and including my 300mm.
When I purchased these I did not know that the 500 mm would be in my future.
I personally did not find the Jobu Jr3 gimbal balanced well with the 500 , so had to purchase the Jobu Heavy Duty MK111.
One other suggestion Leesa. See if you can find a tripod on the B&S forum. You will save some money, and if it turns out that you don't like it, you can sell it without taking a big loss ~ Ron
