I suspect something got between the eles and me....and that something would be red billed queleas....just the most numerous bird in the world! These birds swarm more than flock and can be seen in the millions. This was a small group but when they took to the air en masse the sound was incredible. I wish I had really been into birds back in '06 as there was a Quelea nesting area at the camp I was staying at and didn't even take 1 shot of it
I shot these at 1/400s which was much too slow but seriously, I thought I was going to be photographing slow moving eles...and these guys stole the show!

Obviously the elephants weren't big enough for the camera to focus on. Either that or you need to cut back on the happy juice. The shots turned out very nice despite your incompetence Eric ~ Ron

I think you had the perfect shutter speed, Eric.
I prefer the first because with the second it looks like the focus is a little off.
