p.1 #1 · Blue Jays

I just got my 1.4TC back from nikon after repairs. Trying the TC with the 300mm f/4.

I tried with the 500mm and still can not get a decent shot on anything.

Any comments, nits, crits and suggestions are most welcomed.

Birdie, #1 & 3 look very good at 420mm. #2 looks like strange noise for the D7000 at iso 1100.
Unfortunately I can't help you with the TC on de 500.

Roberta, did you try microadjustment with the lens/tc combo? I don't remember whether you can do that with the Nikon D7000...If you can get a good image with the 300mm and 300mm +tc and 500mm bare then there is obviously a problem with the tc that maybe you don't notice with the shorter lens. I know this is a dumb question but does the D7000 focus with the teleconverter + 500 and if so do you have to use only central spot focusing?
If that's not the issue you can always switch to Canon...their system is perfect

Birdie- Since I shoot slides with old film cameras, I luckily feel no temptation to get involved with technical equipment things .
So I can simply react to the photographs. I really like them (how about that for a penetrating critique?)
We don't have blue jays in the PNW, so the first image looks particularly good to me.
So does the second, although the bird seems to have quite a few unruly breast feathers .
That's quite a shallow DOF on the lizard-like beast, but you've used it well- no complaints. I like that part of its head is separated from the tree.

Very nice job, Birdie. The quality of the first image looks better than the second for some reason.
Those BJ can be very noisy some time

Please forgive the general thank you . I appreciate everyones comments .

Eric, yes the D7000 will auto focus with the 500mm and the TC . I have tried to micro adjust , the 500 and the TC,but quite frankly it has not helped. ( I will be the first to state, that I am no expert at micro adjustments) I bought the LensAlign kit.

Again, thank you everyone for the comments and for looking.

First two look good to me, Birdie. That looks like a piece of cheese under the one talon in #2.

Thanks everyone !!

Eric, it is a piece of a peanut You guys take such marvelous shots with your Canon gear. Somehow I don't think it is the gear ! If switching to Canon would give me the images you guys get, I might consider it
