What they say is probably all true, but it doesn't mean that the Tokina 17mm prime lenses don't work well on modern DSLR. In fact, they generally work very well. My "film-era" Tokina AT-X 17mm f/3.5 AF Pro was noticeably better at the edges and in the corners on my 1DsIII and 5D than my Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L. In the centre, the zoom was slightly sharper, but both were totally acceptable.
P.S. Digital CCD camera need Digital design lens....
your Canon cameras use CMOS sensors, not CCD (not that it really matters).
I agree with both of you Edgars Kalnins and jcolwell,
Whatever I read about this lens,including Ken's is suggesting it is a great piece to stand up with many big brands and at the price it is a steal.
But getting a reliably good piece, I found is very difficult.
