Pretty much every DSLR body or lens we own or have owned is used, with the exception of a 35/1.8 we received as a gift. I don't think I'll ever willingly buy brand new gear at full price when there are so many deals to be had.

Yep, people who buy new are dummies. -_-'

I only buy new, most used gear out there has passed from hand to hand a probably will be misaligned.

im not sure why your argument continues around money. You have no experience with any of these cameras that is evident. Or else I'm sure you would step away from DX. Film not included. Just be honest about your own situation and if you have zero input as to the mystical D600, D700 or D800. None of which you own or have experience with, then perhaps your recommendation lacks real world experience not web based data and technical articles.

NONE OF THESE APPLY TO THE OP.

1. someone wanting to sell a lesser D700

2. someone not being able to afford a D800 or D600.

3. buying something used means you have lesser equipment.

I'm sure there are some people who will sell off their cameras for D600 many of those people will be moving from DX to D600 like yourself. Because it is now an affordable option. then there are people who look at a more pixels and say meh. The market who by D700,D800 are generally a bit more than hobbyist, many are part time professionals or full time and know what kind of performance they want and NEED to get a job.or get the job done. I think what erks me most about post like this, in a community of so many good people trying to help, you simple offer nothing. I find that disappointing.

Of course buying new is great. But if I were shopping on a budget, and I do often. Sometimes I buy new. I've never had someone ask me while writing me a check, did you shoot these with a new lens or a used one, and I've never asked someone something as ridiculous. I consider myself part time professional, meaning on some level i get paid to shoot photos. I also have a job at a hospital here in Arizona, I can assure you my finances are fine, as are many around here. There are many people on here who may find buying used the best way to get better equipment, that is fine as well. The success of of the buy/sell forums would indicate so. Hopefully they find ways to make photography fit in their budget, buying new or used. One thing to consider is many of Nikon's great lenses are no longer manufactured. Used is the only option. All these lenses must be misaligned as you say.

This being said lets get back on topic and start over.

Hey guys I'm selling my D700 anyone interested?

Kidding. kidding.. . . . . . . . . . .

I am still in love with my obsolete D700. As a matter of fact, I swapped from Canon to Nikon 2 years ago because of the D700. I also buy quite a but of used gear. All of my Nikon lenses were purchased used with no issues except for one and the seller paid for the repair.

Just for the record I buy used cars also. I purchased a Customized 2002 Chevy Suburban in 2004 with 40,000 miles for $24,000. I still own that vehicle today and the odometer reads 104,000 miles. The Suburban didn't come with a warranty either.

The best camera is the one in your hand when you press the shutter......

If you need a better body now, then buy one - don't wait for a rumour to materialise. Despite it's age, the D700 is still a superb camera.

lol. I see a lot of folks with obsolete D700s trying to steer this guy into joining their obsolete technology club. I think they're jealous that they're stuck with their ancient camera and you have options.

Wait for the D600. It will be worth it most likely. Only a fool would be paying any more than $700-$800 for a 5+ year old camera that is multiple generations behind in technology particularly when the D600 will be out for $1500-1700. Used D700 prices are patently ridiculous and i would only get the obsolete D700 if you can get it at real value

I would wait and see what the (Nikon announced) D600 offers.
At that time the D700 will surely drop in price if only temporarily.
It may be a perfect buying opportunity for a mint D700 if the D600 does not serve your needs better.

No, no. The rumors for quite some time have been a D600 FX lower end body and a D400 high end DX body.

The D400 seems a lot more nebulous then the D600. I went ahead and grabbed a nice, obsolete, sub-100 click D300s and stopped worrying about it...

If you have to ask "D600 vs D700", then the D600 sure will be better for whoever asks.

That's just the way things are.

If you need a D700 for some reason/s, you need to buy a D700.

Yep, beat me to it. Many people that placed pre-orders for the D800 in Feb. don't even have them now. If you can wait until possibly 2013 to have one then go ahead and pre-order. It should actually be a hotter seller than the D800 when it comes out.

How could that be when there are so many in stock reports?

The D600 will be available faster than the D800 was because the production run will be much greater.
Nikon has a lot more manufacturing capacity outside Japan than at home.
My guess is that it will be built in the remodeled Taiwan plant that has all the latest technological equipment.
As for the D800 many of us got ours months ago by pre-ordering thru small shops
or from Best Buys and "paying sales tax".

The D800 is made in Japan (pro, slow)

The D600 will be made in Thailand (consumer, very fast)

You are the definition of ignorant. I'm sure since you own the D600 that it will produce shots at 8FPS. oh for sure..

You just spat stuff of without knowing anything. Complete speculation.

READ THIS.

NO BODY ON THIS FORUM KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT THE D600 or WHEN IT WILL BE AVAILABLE< WHERE IT WILL BE MADE. WHAT THE IMAGE QUALITY WILL BE.

its called Nikon "RUMORS" for a reason.

I'm sure its ill be a great camera, since I can't imagine nikon wanting to take a leap backwards.

Hell, I might even buy one myself to compliment my set up.

Currently the D700 accomplishes everything I need. And most importantly I can shoot right NOW.

No mystical camera. I actually own it. now and know what its capable of.

I hope the D600 BLOWS THE DOORS off my D700, because at the vapor price that everyone thinks it will fall into, that will be a steal, if the ergonomic are up to par. but till its available Im not going to speculate.

I'll keep shooting cameras that exist.

I still prefer the D300s to the D7000, and will probably prefer the D700 to the D600 for the same reasons. One has the technical ability to produce slightly better photographs, but the other (to me) just feels better and is easier to use, and therefore makes me want to take photographs more.

Well said. I love the handling of my D300s, it's a joy to pick up and use. I'm going to move to full frame in the spring and I'm not looking at the D800 or the rumored D600. The D700 will handle like my D300s and even be able to use my grip and batteries.

The only wildcard for me is live view. Live view is really nice for two things. Manual focusing for macro shots using 10x zoom and composing when the camera is in a position where I can look through the viewfinder. I ignored it for the first two years and then discovered is was invaluable.
