Ran across this cool PS plugin that can create POVRay file of spheres which can be additionally manipulated of POVRay. Both plugin and POVRay itself is free. Click on the image for expanded view.

Thanks for the comments. Since then, a GIMP genius (Kevin) made it even better and ported this ability directly into GIMP itself to create POVRay output as well as add more options. See thread below.
