I just bought an RRS L bracket for my Canon 5D Mark 2. I do not use a battery grip. Just the 5D Mark 2 on it's own.
I want to buy a hand strap for the camera and I want to be able to keep the L bracket on the camera with the strap. Is that possible? If so can you recommend a nice hand strap? Also....will I have to remove the hand strap if I want to place the camera on my tripod?
You can use the Canon E1 hand strap (or equivalent) and have the configuration you want. And no you don't need to remove the strap to mount the camera on a tripod. I have this exact same configuration.
The RRS L-Plate should have a strap mount as part of the design which will work with most hand straps. You don't have to remove the hand strap when mounting on your tripod.
After trying several hand straps, I have found the Markins to be the most comfortable for me.
my real world use and my cameras that used either the L or otherwise with a handstrap was after a short time the handstrap ended up just getting in the way overall and was removed and no longer used.
I've put a cheapo Opteka strap on an L bracket for a D3s. The strap is just barely long enough and it works well enough for me to continue using it. Otherwise, I use the discontinued luma loop, but lately I've removed the one on the camera body (left attachment point) in favor of the wrist strap alone.
