i have a 1000 now.have a d90 d300 and some good lens.my thinking is if something happens to 1 thing then i will still be out on replacing it.premium is 329 a year.

The purpose of insurance is to keep you afloat if you have a catastrophic loss--a loss so great your bank account can't save you. Think about it from that angle.
I have $500 deductible on my current policy. The policy covers all my gear ($25000), laptops, main editing computer and hard drives, as well as rented/borrowed equipment. I pay $629 a year. I also have full replacement value on my gear instead of pro-rated prices.
