p.1 #1 · Start up kit for Landscape Newbie

More of a Portrait and Sports shooter here but I'd like to get started in Landscape shooting starting with an upcoming beach vacation.

I currently shoot a D3 as I patiently wait for a D4.

I also have my eye out on the B&S Board for a 14-24 so as to shoot wider than my current 24 1.4 will allow.

My question is in regards to ND filters.

What recommendations would you make for a newbie looking to balance the exposure of a sunrise/sunset lit sky with the ocean.

Any other suggestions as to items that may come in handy?

Thanks in advance.

Oh, I also have a tripod that should be ample to get me started.

Here's a pretty decent thread on graduated NDs: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1116253/0#10658249

I really love my Singh Ray reverse GNDs (2 stop and 3 stop, but 3 stop gets more use) for sunrises/sunsets on flat horizons. Soft edge GNDs are much better with uneven horizons.

I believe the 14-24 has a bulbous front element, which will cause you some problems with GNDs unless you're really willing to put the time in like Fred did. https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1081875 (Please someone correct me if I'm wrong about the 14-24 because I don't have it).

The 14-24 does have a bulbous front element, but the fix for the canon 17mm won't work not to say there isn't a solution, just that this one isn't it. I'm interested of anyone does know the best solution for using filters on the 14-24. I've seen the $300/400 lee filter system ... Just seems a bit expensive.

I have to agree with Timmeh, the Singh-Ray reverse GND's are a must, I would also through in a couple regular soft step GNDs as well.

So I want to buy some gnd filters. I need to buy the holder and adapter rings. I am mostly using a 24-70, 10-22 and a 70-200.
Lee Foundation Holder

Lee Filter 77mm Wide Angle Adapter

Are these the right items? I know getting them from B&H can be a luck of the draw.
