Just wondering. Do lenses get tried out before they ship, similiar to a premodel Camera. Does everyone just preorder and if its no good return it it or sell it?

There are always pre-production models of everything (lenses included) but I think there's a whole lot less that can go wrong with a lens than with a camera body...hence you don't hear too much about pre-production lenses.

What I don't understand is what you mean by, "Does everyone just preorder and if its no good return it it or sell it?"...I can only remember one Canon lens that had a legitimate issue that had to be corrected after initial release...Some very early production 24-105's had a flare issue but it was not shown to have been an issue with pre-production samples. So even having the luxury of pre-production tests, does not completely eliminate the possibilty of some issue popping up in actual production models. There are all sorts of production changes that occur all the time that can affect the resulting models...vendor supplied parts & manufacturing techniques change all the time and the resulting changes are rarely made public. The point is, any number of these changes (performed incorrectly) can suddenly cause an issue that wasn't present before.
