p.1 #1 · Need recommendation for a light stand bag with wheels
Hey guys, first time posting on this lightning forum, I admit that I've been a gear addict, it's pretty much the only section of the forum I visit (hey, first step is to admit that you have problem right?)
Anyway, the reason I'm posting here is because of growing amount of gears I've acquired through my GAS addiction, and the actual need for shooting both video and still work on location, I'm looking for a bag that's big enough for:
1. Manfrotto carbon fiber tripod and manfrotto head
2. Manfrotto stackable compact light stand
3. Manfrotto monopod (something bhdv-1, the one with the 501 head)
4. Westcott 28 Apollo
For the past year I've been using a guitar bag (from world tour I believe) I got from amazon, which worked pretty well, but since it was a bag made for guitar, it gets narrow as it taper up to the neck area of the guitar, stupid me trying to cram stuff in even thought it couldn't really fit, so now the seam area is starting to rip a little bit, which is why I'm looking for a new bag, with the wheels, because it gets kind of crazy having to lug all those around on the back of my shoulder...
Anyone has any personal experience, durability testimony, warranty experience? I've look into the golf bags, duffle bags, suit cases, but they aren't that cheap from the real lightstand bag, if that's the case, I might as well get the real thing, the budget is between $100 to $150.
Thanks and can't wait to hear what you guys have to say!

Go to an online retailer like B&H, and search for "light stand bag", or "light stand case". You will see lots of choices, and the customer feedback on ones that interest you should help. I do not use bags or cases with wheels, but rather prefer ones with shoulder straps, like the following Kata bag, which I am happy with: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/652307-REG/Kata_KT_LS_46_LS_46_Light_Stand_Bag.html

I have the 46" kata also, it takes a lot of stuff and just the right length for a decent sized stand. The only annoyance is it doesn't come with a shoulder strap.

Thanks guys, I was interested in this as well, but honestly the differences between having wheel and without wheel is pretty high up on my list, especially if you carry it around the airport quite a bit

If you want to use it for airport luggage, be sure to check out the dimensions to know if a given bag will be allowed. The Adorama 53" mentioned above looks nice, but it does exceed the standard size limit, and so you would likely need to pay an oversize baggage fee.
For air travel, I do not try to take big stands, but rather take medium size ones that will fit in 36" or so bags, and thus avoid the oversize luggage, as well as save some on the weight I am trying to travel with.

Roland, do you have any example of the medium 36" bag that you are referring to?

I do not know of a rolling lightstand bag that is 36 inches, but what I use is a general luggage type of bag. If you do a general search for "wheeled duffel 36" you will get lots of things to choose from. Here is a link to one just to get a better idea of what they generally look like:
Many bags in this size range will also have dimensions that are too large for checked baggage without an extra charge. But if you do not fill them up too full, and put a few straps on them to flatten them down, they will usually meet the size requirement. Some of them even have built in straps to flatten them down and keep the contents in place.
Depending on your longest stand you want to carry, you may want to look for other lengths of bags.

Doesn't B & H sell a light stand bag that rolls up? I think 4 stands can slip into pouches within the case to keep them from getting banged up - and then the bag just kind of rolls up and zips together. I recall someone posting info about it a few years ago.

If you want low prices, check out mic stand bags. I can't recall which one I use, but the first two reviews for this one are from guys using it for photo gear. Under $29 bucks.
