p.1 #2 · UK photographers - Anyone for 2nd shooting?
Hi Jon. I'm in the UK but have four weddings in June so am going to bow out! I have to say I'm not really a fan of second shooting. I've done it a few times but like Bond, I work best alone! There's lots of people out there who do though so I'm sure you'll get some good responses.

I've never second shot, and I'm reluctant for the reasons Tony mentions, but I should be available on the 30th... So no experience, take it for what it's worth: www.rharris-images.com

Word up for everyone else, Jon's a cracking fellow and well worth shooting with even just for giggles.
I started crafting a sentence in my original post trying to explain that my reluctance to second shoot had nothing to do with Jon! I couldn't find the words without it sounding disingenuous so cut the line! Trust me though I like his work and I'm confident he's a cracking bloke!

Hey Tony - didn't even come across like that to me. I've shot almost all my wedding on my own. But the weddings I posted are double weekend jobs and some are pretty big. It's just too much to shoot on my own.
I do agree though, I love working on my own too. But sometimes it's nice to have someone else there. I've shot with Alex before and had a great laugh, takes some of the stress out of the job.

Thanks all the same though
Good stuff! Would hate to offend. Yep, can totally see the sense for some situations. If I wasn't so chocker I'd possibly be game but the girlfriend needs some attention too. She gets antsy when I only play with my big lenses

What are you looking for in a second, from an experience point of view?
It completely depends on the wedding. If it's something smaller (<75 guests) then I would just be needing an assistant, helping carry lights, bags, gets groups organised, setting up lights etc. Maybe gets some candid of guest arriving, milling around. Some details.
On the bigger weddings I would need a second shooter. In some cases an experienced shooter who would be confident covering the guys getting ready. I would then meet the second at the church so you would be shooting for say 2-3 hours on your own.
I'll happily have someone with me on the smaller weddings to show them how I do my shooting and then build up a partnership with that person to hopefully have the confidence in them to shoot more and more of the wedding.
I'd expect good level of equipment, some fast glass and some basic knowledge of exposure, composition etc.
Am I expecting too much? I've had seconds turn up before with 450D and kit lenses. One guy had a 18-200 or something and everything was shot at F8
But then I wasn't experienced enough at expressing my expectations.
So to answer your question. I need someone with some wedding shooting experience. If you are not confident at shooting 2-3 hours on your own then happy to have some help as an assistant on my smaller weddings. Someone who is wanting to learn and get experience before shooting weddings themselves. I'm a pretty relaxed person so I would want someone similar.
I'm offering to pay travel + £50 for assistants and £200 for second shooters.
