David, Ken, thanks for your comments. It's surprising how colourful starlings are in good light. Very entertaining to watch too, and they really don't seem to like magpies!
Thanks Roberta. My patience and perseverance is finally starting to pay off! I've learned that there's a lot more to photographing small birds than just having a big lens!

Thanks Jonathan. I printed and framed this one for my wife's 94 year old grandfather. He spends a fair bit of time in the day watching the birds in his garden.
Thanks for the kind comments everyone. It costs me a small fortune in bird food every month to keep the feeders topped up, but I think it's worth every penny for the variety of birds that visit and the pleasure I get from watching and photographing them
From the top, they're Blue Tit (male), Great Tit (male), Robin (?), Blackbird (male), Chaffinch (male), Starling (male).
The one you didn't know is the Chaffinch, but they're not native to the American continent, although apparently there have been a few sightings of vagrants in Newfounland!

these make me miss visiting my grandmother in west sussex (my dad is english but i have lived in the us since day 1). i could see all of these birds in her yard too! great shots, lots of nice birds here.
