What a treat. A couple of days ago my wife sent me a short iPhone video of a bird that landed on our deck. Low and behold it was a Baltimore Oriole....the first I have ever seen outside of a ball park or baseball cap. The next day she said she saw another which looked smaller and a slightly different color. So Friday morning before heading out for her college reunion in Philly I had an hour or so to shoot. I combed the yard hoping to find the birds and finally did find the male and then the female. I think they thought there was another mating pair in the area. I guess they though they were a threat and they tried to intimidate them by flying at them. The problem was that they kept flying into a large picture window that housed not rivals but their reflection....quite funny to watch.
So here is a sample of some shots...the male made himself much more available for nice images. I am only posting a few...lots more to come. I'm hoping to get more of the female and maybe even something more special as I think she is in the process of building a nest just outside the deck off our bedroom...here's hoping with fingers and toes crossed.
Enjoy,
Eric

I get the occasional colorful bird in my yard like goldfinches, blue jays, cardinals and robins but nothing with the vibrant orange these guys possess....is is too much to ask mom to build a nest...after all it is Mother's day?
Thanks David
Very nice Eric. It's the last 2 for me. I have seen birds fighting their reflections several times. Once in a hubcap, and another time in a side view mirror ~ Ron
1 and 3 are beauties Eric. They used to be very common here in Queens. Now I’m lucky to see one a season. You are getting a great show and I’m glad we get to see them through your skilled camera work.
