Hi, I'm a recent convert to Nikon digital from Canon. I was very lucky, in that the EOS system was very flexible in the mount/lens options to use, but with further research to the Nikon mount system, it seems like there is not quite the choice. I was hoping some out there could add their input as to which systems have a mount/adapter readily available to use with Nikon? From what I've gathered these (with correct adapter) can be adapted to Nikon mount:
Leica R
Contax C/Y
Zuiko
Medium Format:
Hassleblad
Mamiya 645
Pentax 67 and 645
Pentacon 6
it looks like minolta rokkor and rollei adapters aren't available yet. What other legacy glass has adapters available for Nikon?
Only Medium Format glass can be adapted to F mount. R, C/Y and OM lenses can be converted via a Leitax kit, not adapted. The conversion is relatively simple.
Minolta Rokkor and Rollei are not adaptable to Nikon (Rokkor's are not adaptable to any FF SLR, Rollei's are problematic even on EF). Some Rokkor's are convertible with work (the 58/1.2 is known to be).
The problem is the distance from lens mount to image plane on Nikon...it is shorter than on a Canon (i.e., it is easy to ADD to optical center of lens to image plane, impossible to subtract -- though there are some adapters with an integral lens element, but that detracts from the optical quality of the lens you intend to adapt and defeats the purpose).

The opposite actually, the Canon's have the shorter register (44mm) than Nikon's (46.5mm). Your lens needs to have a longer register than the mount to be adapted to (barring M42 adapters on Contax or K mounts, which were designed with such adapters in mind).
Also the small throat of F mount precludes most adapters as well. For a readily adaptable mount you need either a slightly shorter register on the camera and a mount with a throat large enough to fit the adapter inside or a mount which is significantly shorter in register like E or m43 mounts.
