I dont get the dreaded X at the wide end using a 17-55 with a 7D. I will see what images I can dig up but may take awhile as I am a little lazy with tagging them when importing

The camera and the focal length are automatically in the EXIF and don't need to be tagged. Search for that. Not sure why keywords or no keywords would delay find a 17 mm 7D image.

What "dreaded X"?

17mm on a crop is not that wide - or should 21mm be considered as ultra-wide.......
