Really nice David. I really like the last...would love to see it a bit larger......
You have whetted my appetite for Acadia.....its on the itinerary for our next trip later this year. Would love to see some more.......!
cheers Andrew
The last one if particularly intriguing because I'm not entirely sure what all is going on in the foreground, but it sure works a treat in the shot.
Given that 2 & 3 appear to be landscape/portrait versions of practically the same scene, I'd opt for the vert version. The lines in that one just work tremendously.

Thanks. Within about 30 yards I had round smooth rocks, hard jagged edges, and these huge slabs of ocean smoothed granite... awesome textures and cool foregrounds.

Nice shots, but bigger would be better. That area gets little traffic, but has some very nice scenery.
Thanks Stan. Schoodic doesn't get nearly the traffic that Mount Desert Island gets, but there is so much to see and enjoy over on this quieter part of the park.

Beautiful color, detail Dave. I cant wait to get back up there!
The second and 4th are standouts for me.
The first, while executed with precision, feels just too deep in the rocks. My eye immediately goes to the brighter horizon. I also prefer the more landscape crops. The third has more foreground colors echoing the pastels beyond and the large outcropping provides interest, a variety in the textures, and some nice leading diagonals.
Fine work!

Scott... thanks for the thoughtful comment and feedback. Much appreciated.
It's funny, the very reason the first doesn't work so well for you is why it works for me. I like the depth of the rocks from front to back... that's just me though
I actually made several more compositions than these from the twenty minutes or so before sunrise. There were textures, lines and shapes everywhere!

Its a less traditional comp to my eye. So maybe more refreshing?
As I look back, and I think back to my brief visit to Acadia, I can really appreciate what an eye it takes to isolate these compositions from the huge cascade of textures, tones and POV's possible. Its easy to imagine standing alongside you as you take these images, and seeing something very different, missing your vision.

Scott... I wanted to make those rocks the star of the show in the first one (with a pretty backdrop off in the distance). I get that it might not work, but just trying for something different and mine. Acadia is beautiful isn't it. Not so much the big grand landscapes of out west, but lots of pretty details. I never get tired of experiencing it and trying to photograph it in a meaningful way. Part of the fun is that everyone sees things differently, everyone would have photographed this scene differently. I like that.

:Nice work David. I'll be headed up that way this fall and definitely looking forward to getting back to the area.
Mike
Thanks Mike. Yikes... it's a little too early to be talking about fall for me... we're just coming out of a long (but not too snowy) winter and I'm looking to hang on to the warmer weather for as long as possible

Very nice work here. I particularly like the third one. The pebbles in the foreground are great.

Thanks Ute... there were so many possibilities with those foreground rocks.
