p.1 #1 · SB-900 problem

I am having some problem with using SB-900 with D700.

The flash doesn't fire in TTL mode ( cannot get TTL BL mode at all), but it does fire in A mode. Doesn't work as a remote at all.
I tried it with a couple of different lenses, it doesn't seem to matter.
The setting in the camera: sync speed 1/250s
Flash shutter speed 1/60 s

Interestingly I can get it to fire in TTL BL mode with D90. The remote function however still doesn't work even with the other camera

I hope someone can help me.

Have you tried resetting the camera to its defaults by holding down the exposure compensation button and the quality buttons (indicated by green dots) at the same time for about 3 seconds. Also check your metering mode. TTL-BL will not work if your camerea is set to spot metering. Good luck.

Thanks Bob.
I just tried it, but no luck.
My other flash, SB-600 works with the D700 in TTL BL mode.
Cannot figure out what is going on.
Now, sometimes I get the TTL BL mode working for a very short period of time, than if the flash goes Standby it reverts to TTL and stops working.
Most weird

Have you Reset your flash?

My bet is the hot shoe on your d700 needs to be replaced. The hot shoe on the d700 have been known to become problamatic. Check and see if there is play when you seat the flash in the hotshot. This would indicate that the hot shoe needs to be adjusted or replaced so the flash makes proper contact with the contacts.
