p.1 #1 · Tokina 16-28mm f 2.8

I wanted to start a thread about this lens since I don't see one yet. Not much has been said about this lens so hopefully this will help people out. I use it on my d700 and I find it to be an awesome lens. Very very sharp but the nighttime flare shots aren't the greatest. Its a heavy lens that is well built, but it won't accept filters. Here are some sample shots so far with the lens. Enjoy and imput/opinions are always helpful

+1 @ thanks.

How easy is it to correct for distortion/keystoning/etc.?

Distortion is minimal b/c of the well designed lens. Anything can be fixed in photoshop or lightroom. That's what I always use and it helps.

Struggled to find a review of this lens until I looked through the forum just now.

Pretty happy that I have ordered it and can't wait until it arrives, hopefully by Friday..

Thanks for the photos..

I am close to buying this lens due to excellent reviews and low pincushion/barrel distortion.

I did hear a negative from a camera repair shop with general regard to Tokina lens for durability. It is rather soon to have a record for a new lens like this one, but is there any info with regard to how well the better class of Tokinas hold up?

I had one but returned it due to a circular, donut-like mark on the lens and some funky noise coming from the focusing mechanism. Hard to believe it made it through QC. On my 5D it was very sharp, not too bad in the corners, and not much distortion. Compared to my Canon 17-40, it was noticeably better in the corners at 17mm thru 20mm. It did have a slightly warmer color cast to it than the Canon. I don't know if that's normal or not. It was also very good on my 7D. It is heavy, about two pounds. I'll order another one, and hope that it works out better.

I got my Tokina 16-28 f/2.8 used for $700 on Tuesday. Condition was marked 8+ by Henry's but it seemed mint to me. I've been having a blast with it and I'm very impressed with the sharpness and build.

I think with special filter holders its not that much of issue. Ofc not much for walkaround.

From pics I saw over net, seems as fine lens.

Just a general question for everyone, how come when people get a bad lens they return it instead of sending it in for repair? I would almost assume that sending it in for repair is going to give you better odds of a better lens in the end then taking another gamble on another new copy? No, yes

I bought the Tokina 35mm a while ago and it had the sticky aperture problem, I sent it in to Tokina and they repaired it and I had it back within a week. I was very impressed with their service.
