p.1 #1 · Yonguo RF-603 Multi Photog Environment Fail
Hey all,
I just wanted to see if anyone has had the same experience as me. Last night, I shot of wedding reception using a crosslight setup for the first time. I had two AB800s setup diagonal across a room and had everything hooked up with RF-603s including having a flash mounted on top of my camera for fill. Everything was going great until my other photog asked if he could use my lighting setup as well. I figured why not?
Well, it turns out that the transceiver design which I thought was "smart" isn't that smart. If two cameras both have RF-603s on the hotshoe, then when one fires in "transmit" mode, the other becomes a "receiver". Basically, everytime the other photog fired a shot, my hot shoe flash would pop, sometimes right in my eye. Total fail.
I see the the PW have a transmit only mode but the RF-603s don't. I thought that when the transceiver is in the hotshoe it automatically stays in "transmit mode" but I guess not. Anyone else have this happen to them?
The other problem I had was that the AF assist isn't passthrough on the hotshoe so once the lights shut off for dancing, I couldn't focus worth a heck.
I think it's time for me to move up. I'm going to do these light setups a lot more and will need the following features:

I've been in a similar situation, (up to 3 shooters sharing AB400s), and we were all using only the 603 transcievers without an additional speedlight, and we had no problems.
