I may be alone on this, but does anyone else this some Elinchrom products look, aestheticly at least, old and out dated? I'm thinking specifically of the ranger series. Of course of ts not
Broke, don't fix it. But while other brands are releasing new products and fresh ideas and technology, Elinchrom seems stuck.
I don't think so. They have the digital thing going on like other manufacturers. I think their gear looks pretty good all around. What looks dated to you?

They are only just moving into lithium batteries when many manufacturers did it a few years ago otherwise their gear just seems to stay the same. It does look pretty ugly compared to say, profoto but who cares really.
Yes they went through an ugly phase (translucent purple cases). But if you think that's bad, just get your hands on an Alienbee.
I actually wish someone would offer digital control with analog knobs to control power. I hate pushing the buttons on all these digital strobes.
I just started buying Elinchrom stuff & must say the quality is excellent, sturdy, and easy to use. It is on the pricey side, but luckily other manufacturers are producing compatible components...as to the "look", as hard as it is, I'm trying to convince myself that the finished product is what counts...but presentation should get half points!

Profoto D4 is your ticket, and you get to avoid the fugly factor.
Certain Continental companies like Profoto and Leica took advantage of the strong-Euro era to hike prices significantly (up to 50%). I think my lighting gear has gained in value, but I've been accumulating for a few years. With Profoto, buying used is a real option: don't know about Eli.
Their product look may be outdated, but they got best R&D dept. Their EL-Skyport wireless solution is the best I've ever seen. You can even use iPhone, iPad to control your flash.
Yep, i have the iPad/iPhone wifi system it works extremely well when using more than two lights and hard to reach lights. You control everything from the iPad which i have attached to my tripod while shooting in studio.
