Has anyone done micro adjustments on their 5D3 yet? Are you way off 0?
I performed MA on my old 5D2 and I have to say most of my L lenses were at 0 out of the box with no adjustments and the one lens that wasn't I sent back to Canon for adjustment. I use the live-view method.
Now w/ the new 5D3, i'm noticing its not at 0. I find it a PITA if I'm going to have to go back adjusting all the lenses to this new body.
The new 5D3 has more options (I have to go read the manual) with a W and a T adjustment. I'm noticing I'm consistently back focusing.... Typically at -10 T. I thought about sending it back but who knows when I'm going to get a replacement or send it to canon.
I've noticed it too. My 24-105 was pretty good on my 5DII with no MA, but now needs 0 (W) and -7 (T) on the 5DIII. However, my 85L doesn't need MA on either body, so that's strange.

Interesting, I have to go back and test my 85L again. It was 0 on my 5D2. I don't remember what it is on the 5D3 except I have to adjust it.....
My lenses barely needed adjustment on the 5D Mark II and the same goes for the 5D Mark III. I would consider any adjustement within +- 10 to be normal and anything beyond +-15 although annoying, is still acceptable. Anything more than 15... well, fortunately, none of my lenses required anything more than normal. To be frank, if it is +- 2-3 or so, I left it to 0 and I didn't bother adjusting.

I don't see that as being unique to the 5D Mk3. You would probably have to do it to any new body.
Qc check with each new body to make sure it's at 0.... Yes, thats quick. The fine adjustment each lens and test when all the lenses are off, that takes a while.
Canon, like any other camera/lens manufacturers, based this aspect on tolerance levels. As long as they work within tolerance levels, both camera bodies and lenses, that's fine. We are talking about mass produced items here and not precision laboratory instruments that will have to be individually calibrated. I think you need to put that into perspective.
I had a 5D3 that I returned because of a problem with SD card interface. That body and the replacement that I got were/are both dead on with a bunch of zooms and primes, the only exception so far being a 135L that required a similar MA on my 5D2 and 1D4.
Your body may be out of calibration, but I'd first try doing an "all lenses" MA with a lens that had been at 0 with your 5D2. Then see if the other lenses line up without individual MA.
All of my other bodies have required MA to some extent but not on the 5D MK3 so far. I haven't calibrated all of them yet but I guess the difference between bodies gives reason to have a MA function.
All my lenses are microadjusted using LensCal. My 35L is at +4, my 24-105L is at something like +3W and +5T, my 70-200 II at +3 and +5 or something... Nothing high though, just small tweaks to maximize IQ.

if you are shooting with longer lenses, 2-3 steps off can radically reduce your take, especially for sports of wildlife
even 1 step can make a noticeable difference

So far, I haven't seen any difference and I consider that as within the tolerance level. I am really not fretting about that at all.

Yes, you can now with the 5D Mark III. How well? I have not had the need for that but I am sure it comes in handy in some cases.
Sounds promising in theory. I remember the days when adjusting a zoom lens at the tele end, only to find out it was off at the wide and (and vice versa).

+1
Mine required the same adjustment as on my 5D2 which was nothing or not far from it. +6 was the largest and that was the 24 1.4 L II.
I just upgraded to Fo-Cal Pro and did most of my glass this weekend except for the big whites..
24L 1.4ll ~ 35L 1.4 ~ 50L 1.2 ~ 85L 1.2ll ~ 100L 2.8ll ~ 135L 2.0 ~ 16-35L ~24-105L . 70-200L 2.8ll
It's a duly process as Fo-Cal does not support auto on the 5DMKlll so each lens requires at least 8-10 steps.. anyways bottom line is ...none ma'd at 0. Also none ma'd at 0 on my 5DMKll either except the 300L 2.8 and 200L 2.0. The 500L 4.0 I've never tried.
Your only going to get a MA of 0 if your lens and body are both perfectly at the ideal spec. Tolerances arnt tight enough to achieve this, prices are WAY too low to offer that level of accuracy.
