I downloaded files from my wife's t2i last night and when I put the memory card back in the camera it would not recognize the card and told me to replace it or format in camera. I tried to format the card in the camera and it says it can't format it. I put the card back in my computer and it let me format it with no problem but the t2i still won't recognize it.
I had the same issue with an SD card from a Sony digital picture frame on a different PC about a month ago. I took the card out of the frame to add more photos and the card could not be written to or formatted, even though it was working fine when I removed it from the computer.

Have you tried a different card? SD cards are cheap and readily available .
If it happens on another card(s) it could be the little switch connector that the SD card trips to say its write protected or not as got stuck. I've heard it happens a fair bit. The SD slot on my pc won't format or write to a card due to the same issue. I can only download images using that slot.
Actually if that's the case I would think you could view images on the camera . Or maybe not now if you have a pc formatted card as the camera will want to add the dcim folder when the card is inserted.
Spoke too soon. I thought my wife tried other cards but she had not. I inserted two other cards and camera won't read either of them. Tried all of the cards in my mkIII and they all work there with no issue.
Is there a way to do a master reset on this camera? I noticed that I'm not at the current firmware but I can't update it because it needs the SD card. I've done some searching on the net but so far not much info.
ok then at least its not the micro switch in the camera.
I know what you mean about it being annoying. just as a quick question I assume the switch is in the right place on the card? ( I guess it must be to format in the PC)
have you done a low level format on the PC?
Have you made sure its formatting to some other file system?
have you tried any card utilities on it ? something may get the card back to life.
Ultimatly you may have to trash the card. if its from a compnay like sandisk they may replace it
Bump for updated info. I edited a message in middle of thread but basically it turns out that T2i will not read any card but the same cards can be used in my 1DmkIII and will also format with no problems on my PC.
I would reset everything to default settings in the camera and then pull the battery for about 30 mins and see if that helps. Before I sent it in, I think I would even remove the internal battery to power it all the way down and leave it out for a few minutes. You might even call into Canon tech support, sometimes they have tricks to try for certain symptoms.
