p.1 #1 · Do you ever feel you'd want them all?

With all the "what camera should I get" topics, many legacy camera bodies are praised for specific reasons. Sometimes I just feel like getting all of them, just for the hell of it. Just for having. I won't do that, of course. But it's just the thought.

Am I the only one?

Let me explain:
- 40D: cheap, good IQ, 6.5 fps (got one)
- 1DmkII(N): great AF tracking, 8.5 fps
- 1DsmkII: wonderful IQ at lower ISO's (used to own one)
- 5Dclassic: has undoubtedly the most topics on FM (got one)
- 1DmkIII: great IQ, 10fps, very sensitive AF
The list could go on towards the history end. Newer cameras are of course too expensive to add to a "want them all" list (although that would be a great list ).

1D3 and 5D are my favs on your list. Also liked the 1d2 and 2n models.
40D is last of the 10xD models to have a magnesium body. 60d feels like a rebel to me. I also loved the 1d. Great list and I am sure many have opinions on this list and their own favs.

I currently have a 1D3 and 1DsII and don't really want another camera aside from the 1Dx for those reasons.

Thanks! Just thought I'd toss in a light subject between all of the ISO, banding and AF tracking accuracy we've got on our hands at the moment... But seriously, I have been thinking this for at least 6 months. Just never dared come out of the closet with it until now....

Sorry, the closet is a metaphor.

P.S. What's film?

(this could be ironic, but I'm not sure...) ...

Rob, I'd go with the 1DIV for best AF tracking (or 1DIII), but we're talking old school classics here, ...

For lenses it can be nice. But not for bodies. (even if I own 3 bodies)
When do you use 1D2 or 1Ds2 if you own a couple of the new bodies that replaced those ?

Hi Lars,
Maybe for owners of newer bodies this list is just nostalgia. But that can be nice too. Who says you need to actually use them?
As for me, I own a 40D and a 5Dc. I would really like to add the 1D bodies in the list. Just for the hell of it, remember?

Looks like I'm alone in this, based upon the responses so far......

You could buy the 1D very cheap. It's a nice camera and you will own one of the 1 series bodies also.

No! You're not alone. I'm on your side.

I've owned four or the five cameras in your original list. I know that they're all really good, because I've also owned quite a few other EOS bodies. They were also really good (maybe there's a trend shaping up here).

My first reaction to your original post was - well, how about the 1DsIII and 1DIV? Then I backed off a bit and realized that you're on a different track. It's all good.

P.S. I still own two 5D. They still provide supreme pleasure...

Yes the 1D1 has a different color pallette than the later bodies.

For some work pushing around 4 megapixel files can be a liberating experience.
