p.1 #1 · Canon 1.4x TC 'classic'. worth upgrading to II or III?
I have the original Canon 1.4x teleconverter. It's now available in Mark III. Does anyone know what if any differences there are going to the II or III from the 'classic'? Thanks

The new TC has weather sealing (the Mark II TC does, too), a slight improvement in optics and AF speed/accuracy. The later applies more to the new superteles, and actually to the 70-200mm Mark II. Of course, the most noticeable difference between the Mark I and III is the price .

III has a lot less CA (maybe 3x less, but you can fix CA fairly well in RAW) and definitely sharper edges and corners, however, they are REALLY similar in the center, at 200% view with flipping back and forth you can see that the III is better there too, but it's REALLY close, you have to really look even when flipping (which tends to make things more apparent than side by looking)
It also has a different form of distortion that works in the opposite way the II does which means when paired with some lenses it will counter act them and make things less distorted than without the TC but with others it might make them even more distorted. I believe they made it work in the direction more likely to help the super-tele this time, so it might give you less distortion when paired with the lenses it was most meant for.
with mark II super-tele it is claimed to focus more precisely, i don't know in reality, i'd have to rob fort knox and then steal the hope diamond and take out a few loans to know
if you shoot jpg a lot then it makes sense for sure or if you have a Mark II IS super-tele, otherwise it depends, if you simply want the best, edge to edge you can get then yes, if you can live with only the center region being great and the edges a little worse then maybe not, it is a lot more $
