I think the original 1D2 is the best value, or bang for buck. It essentially takes the same picture you have there for $600. I know sometimes an incredible buy comes along for a 1D2n, but usually they are somewhere around $1000.
Robert -- The 1D3 is a great camera, and a big upgrade from the 1D2. But I wouldn't say that's the "best bang for the buck". For the same price, one could have a 1Ds2 -- IQ quite a bit better. But of course, if you need a sport-type camera, the 1Ds2 wouldn't quite cut it.
I guess the point is we all love these older 1D-series cameras!

I'll dump one of mine for $800 if anyone wants it. Definitely the best bang for the buck right now and still a top performer for sports.

HEY! Don't cut down the 1D3! Buy them on the b/s forum! haha. I'm just messing with you. LIke I said, it was a shameless plug.
I agree though, it really depends on what you're shooting. A 5D original for $600 is a pretty damn good bang for the buck.
1D III may not be quite the bang for the bcuk, but it is in every way a better camera than the 1D II(N). Lot's of little improvements but some huge ones (IQ, weight, battery, menu, ergonomics) and AF is even better and those extra 2MP are most welcome. I owned a 1D II for nearly 6 years and thought it was the ducks guts and didn't miss it a bit after a week of using the 1D III.
1d2/n is roughly the same price as the 5D. Been going back and forth on which one to buy for quite a while - they're quite different cameras and each have their very strong points.

Right.......if and when it works. Hell, probably a 1/2 of all 1DMkIIIs have an NFG AF system, whether their owners know that or not.
I'd say the 1D II is still the best buy, since you can get one for around $550 used (with brazing) or around $650 for one with all the original box, etc. I mean, you just can't beat that for the amazing quality of the camera! The 1D IIn is still around 800-1000. While the screen is better on the back, it's the same underbody for the most part.
