Looking for opinions on weather to get Canon grip or after-market, and if after-market which one has better reputation with you folks. Loose any features with Canon vs after-market brands? Thanks, Mike
I used Zeikos on my first 7D and I have a Zeikos on 5D2. My current 7D is ungripped, probably should buy one for it eventually. They work well. You can check the rating on Amazon.
I got some aftermarket one for my 7D, doesn't feel like a solid build but I haven't had any problem with it. has a built time lapse thingy, but I've never used that function. I do not regret this purchase.
I was a bit reluctant to go for a non- Canon grip for my 550d. I read lots of reviews and none really gave me confidence. In the end I shelled out for the genuine Canon item. Very pleased with it, the vertical shooting controls are great, the camera is better balanced with big lenses and it gives more battery time, especially when shooting video.
I have a Vello grip on my 5d2, it doesn't feel as tough as the canon grip, but offers the same functions. Haven't had any problem with it yet and for 1/4 the price I don't regret it.
I have a Vello Grip for my 7D and really like it. I dont use it all the time, only for sports shooting normally. I have definitely used it enough to say it is a great grip and I would buy it again.
