p.1 #1 · big problem of this canon 85mm L II?

It looks as though part of the inner perimeter of the ring is chipping off

Is it a common problem for Canon 85L II?

Thanks

I don't know if it's a *common* problem, but because the rear element protrudes so much you have to be extra careful handling this lens when it is off the camera.

Does this look like the ring disintegrates by itself or there's been an impact there?

I can't tell. I bought it from ebay. Seller offers me $100 discount for this issue.

Looks like it has been impacted. Forget the $100, get a refund and send it back.

yes, it will cost £250 in the uk to repair, I've chipped mine when I let someone borrow it, won't be lending it again as I didn't check properly when i got it back.

Ouch...yeah, that's more than $100 worth of "issue". It might not have an impact on IQ. However, most shooters can forgive marks on the front element, but when the rear element is concerned...meh.

I agree, this is not a typical problem. This lens has been impacted..

THAT SAID... this won't make any sort of a differences in your images, unless you shoot at like F16 (seriously). I'd be inclined to keep the lens.

The usual worry with impacts is that the shock disturbed the internal alignment of lens elements.

It's like with a used car that's been in a collision. Maybe it's fine. Or maybe its front end got subtly misaligned and you find out about it when your front tires wear out in 10K miles...

A few very quick test shots will tell you if it's ok optically.
