whimbrel are so cool. i found a few of them in mission bay in san diego and had a blast shooting them. this first shot is really nice even if the lighting isn't perfect

Ken- with good intentions only...
I like the whole OOF concept of the second image- well, except for the section that's IN focus (and the color that draws attention to it).
So I made it a B&W image, and (to the specific area only) applied noise reduction (which adds a bit of blur), and then added gaussian blur.
It may not be what you want, of course, but it does get rid of the in-focus part of the pic.

Hey Charlie, thanks for making the effort to provide an alternate view. I don't mind it at all. The original is an excellent example of purple fringing, yours removes that effect, and therefore is less of a visual attractant. If I thought I could pull it off, I would even consider editing out a good portion of the middle band.

I love the first shot--and the second one is totally different and interesting. It really makes you stop and look.
Thanks Lycale. If you stopped and looked a little longer than normal, then a small measure of "artistic" success was the result. I appreciate your positive comments.

Many thanks Dorian. It was fun to shoot this one in particular. He/she did me the favor of not flying away the instant I focused on him. It is funny how some will tolerate you, and others won't.
