p.1 #1 · Bought from Crutchfield: All is well, but should I worry anyway?
I've been a loyal B&H shopper for a couple of years now. However, when it came time to order my new D700, the only places that had them in stock, low stock at that, were Amazon and Crutchfield. I was able to finance my purchase through Crutchfield with incredibly fast and free shipping. I ordered it last wednesday and it was in my hands on Friday (shipped on Thursday). It arrived well packed inside a ton of peanuts. All is working well and good and I am incredibly happy with the camera (I switched from an entire Canon set up to go Nikon.)
My only concern is this, I had some questions about my financing terms so I did some research and came across a fair amount of extremely negative reviews of Crutchfield as a company, their customer service, shipping, etc etc. I had a pleasant experience and had been recommended to them by a friend several times over the past couple years for odds and ends, though this was my first purchase from them.
Crutchfield, like Best Buy and Amazon, sells a myriad of product from home stereo to car stereo parts and speakers, cameras, GPS units, etc etc. Should I be at all worried that I purchased my almost $3,000 camera from a store like this instead of a SOLID B&H or Adorama? If anything WERE to go wrong with the camera physically or electronically, it would be going to Nikon for review/repair and not my retailer anyway.
Can any of you calm my nerves here? Admittedly, I worry about minute things that to any other person would not be an issue. (The pitfalls of acute anxiety and OCD.)

if they are a Nikon Authorized Reseller and you bought true USA stock and not some grey market thing then i do not know what there is to worry over. I think the better question is why anyone would buy a camera of this vintage brand new any more? The market will be flooded with them since all the bleeding edge amateurs will be flocking for the latest and greatest camera. The thing with electronic gear is that it is most likely to fail Right Away or will work right for a Very long time. Used DSLR cameras are a Much better use of hard earned cash than a new camera Esp something you indicate that you are going to be paying Interest on!!!!!!!

Thanks for the reply.
I do my best not to buy used equipment, that's just my personal preference.
I was able to get 12 months no interest financing and it will be paid off in 2 months. If I was going to accrue interest, I wouldn't have made the purchase.

I have purchased from Crutchfield on several occasions. Never photo gear, but a few audiophile bits and I've been nothing but pleased in the process.
To be honest tho, I too would have purchased a D700 at a steep discount on FM's Buy & Sell section. As already mentioned, a lot of mint, barely used cameras are going to be listed by people who upgraded to the D800 and you could save yourself several hundreds of dollars. Used works well if you deal with the right people.

Crutchfield's is a large company well known for taking care of its customers. A lot of audiophiles used to order through them because they have/had such an open return policy and good customer service. I don't know what they have done of late, but for years they were a little higher priced but a whole lot better service than places like Amazon and Best Buy. People used to spend a lot on high end audio gear from them, so I suspect a camera purchase is okay as long as they are indeed an Nikon Authorized reseller.

Duly noted. I'm sure you're not a regular in the consumer culture, are you?
Sorry man, but jabs like that are unnecessary. It was a simple question. Thanks for all the answers.
sorry you think that was a jab but it was not! I am most assuredly involved in consumerism. At Need I have bought 3 pro bodies the very day they were released. Rest assured I have spent a Lot and made a lot in the last decade. When I do not have a pressing need I Much prefer to spend on used , not totally for thrift but so I can spend on multiple items. I got over the warm fuzzy of the new camera smell a long time ago There was no jab and i will not jab you now for an over-reaction I might perceive on your part
When you ask a question on the internet many times it gets expanded on not just for the original poster but so that the responder can give a bit more info on what drives them and why.

Why even worry?
Transactions done, you have the camera, I know it's a USA model as I bought my D700 from them back when they first came out and actually got on their list for my D800, but that's been resolved.
Now the only thing you might need to worry about, and it's not unique to Crutchfield are the financing terms you have. I'm assuming it might be a zero interest loan for a period of time, then you need to pay the camera off before that time period expires or all the interest accrued will be applied to your account. That could be substantial. So if this is the type loan you have, be sure and pay off before the deadline.

I've used Crutchfield for years (10-15 years) for buying all my Stereo/AV equipment and have never had an issue. They are also an Authorized Nikon dealer per the Nikon website so you are in good hands. I just picked up a 50mm 1.8 Nikon lens (arrived today in perfect condition) No one else had stock. Not many people realize that Crutchfied also sells some high end photography gear so their inventory levels are generally better.
