Just got an email from RRS that my pre-ordered L plate has shipped.
So I have a spare battery, spare charger, 1/2 a dozen good lenses, an L plate.....
umm what am I missing?
Oh yes the damned camera! .... e in my case
Mike
I got my RRS D800E "L" plate today. They cranked those out fast! I was #392 on the pre order list. Now all I need is the camera. I did purchase two batteries so far in fear that extras would be slim Pickens as new D800/E owners will want extra batteries. I'm going to Rocky Mountain Natl park in June, can't wait to shoot landscapes with the D800E!

I'm on exactly the same boat.
Where the hell is my camera?
I just attach my L-plate to my tripod and try to take some pics with that...

Same boat.
I have spare D4 battery, D4 bracket... no D4.
I have spare D800 battery, D800 bracket shipping... no D800.

Thanks - just checked and it is backordered
When I ordered mine, it was on backorder as well, but it was about 2 weeks after I placed my order till I received it. This was back in mid April, so it may have gotten worse as people are receiving their bodies.

I got mine last week! Did you buy the one with the grip or without?
Some people may be more picky about how their l-bracket fits, but my L bracket for the d800 without the grip fits pretty darn snug even with the grip. Of course, your not going to be changing batteries with the L bracket attached, but it is nice to have that option.

Which one do you have? There are only two types. One with the grip and the one without.
I have the one that fits without the grip, but I'm saying I have used it when my grip is attached and it works fine for my use. It was very secure. No twisted on ballhead. Cons would be no access to the battery compartment and the nodal points don't line up even somewhat.

I found that if I'm shooting on a tripod I don't even use the grip so the point was moot but if I did have to use the grip for whatever reason on a tripod the bracket works fine with the caveats you listed.
