Just got the 2X so these are some shots from my first time out with it. AF is plenty fast and IQ is fine. Not as light as the 400 f5.6L but you can't have everything. Cam tracks very well even with busier backgrounds.

With regards to the shot of the Giant Dipper...

Are you shooting from a boat or from the Pier?
How much have you cropped the picture?

If you are shooting from the Pier then that is truly an amazing shot. What incredible reach!

Thanks for these shots rd4tile!

I was a bit worried about feather detail getting all muddy with the TC but that last BB (bird butt) shows some good feather detail to me.

If you have some more I would love to see them.

Thanks for these samples...very helpful as I consider my own lens lineup.

Results looks really good! Would love some side by side comparisons with primes and the 200-400 for fun, but those are obviously already better than useable.

Hey these look really good!

I know I dont like the IQ out of my 70-200VRI + 1.7TC-IIe, wide-open. I guess the new TCs are better.

9 miles from out my bedroom window to the Empire State Building - and 11 miles to the Freedom Tower at ground zero

D800 70-200 VRII + 2.0TC III [10 sec exposure at 400mm f/8]
