I wouldn't call the battery amazing, it would be amazing if it were the same battery as in iPad2, but it's not, it's much larger and heavier, so battery is run-of-the-mill. No new tech here.
Adapters are a pain for a tablet. I want convenience, so everything should be built-in.
Anyway, I won't ever be supporting Apple, so I could care less what their products do or don't offer.
making a better battery ain't so easy though, so it's hardly a knock
I do hate how they 1984-control and lock down this or that, if they were just a little more hacker mentality and free and open and everything they once claimed they were, then wow. That said the screen on this thing is stunning. All the other tablets, the res is simply too low for them to really be usable IMO, just blocky and nasty. This is great. Plus the finally fixed up the color gamut, so instead of falling horrendously short of even the small sRGB gamut, I hear the new one is a near match for sRGB, that is a huge improvement too.
With the stunning screen it's THE tablet now. I jsut wish they would stop the whole big-brother, lockdown BS though. Eventually maybe half a decade or so, maybe a little longer, it may eventually be their downfall unless they loosen up. They even lock down the LUT so you can calibrate white balance for everything. Come on already.
And not having updated safari on it to not downsize all images to 1024 is absurd. They gotta get on that. How can safari not be fully HD ready??
But the display, just wow! Finally. Been waiting for a tablet to finally deliver a proper screen and wow has this one done that.
(and hopefully they are serious about that foxconn oversight stuff and it wasn't just a smoke and mirrors things)
The iPad 3 will probably require that you use a pot holder in the lower left corner as it gets hotter than previous models. I think the cottage industry that brought you the iPhone 4 antenna case is about to launch a new iPad product, probably made of wood.

so far it's only gotten to warm, not hot, maybe under warmer weather like 85+ degree days it will get hotter
Here's what Apple had to say about its hot new iPad:
The new iPad delivers a stunning Retina display, A5X chip, support for 4G LTE plus 10 hours of battery life, all while operating well within our thermal specifications. If customers have any concerns they should contact AppleCare.
(Translation: Chill out!).
"Throwing cold water over all of the excitement, however, Consumer Reports writer Donna Tapellini says that though the new iPad hit 116 degrees Fahrenheit, this warmth is no cause for concern:"
"During our tests, I held the new iPad in my hands," Tapellini writes on the Consumer Reports blog. "When it was at its hottest, it felt very warm but not especially uncomfortable if held for a brief period."
The battery issue is just beginning. Wait until a few people get burned (literally) and there will be a halt in sales. Then a recall. Oh wait, this is Apple. There will be so many apologists out there that they'll come up with an angle on the heat issue. Like, "You can use it as a hand or ball warmer, it's great!".
It takes a build-up of use time to generate enough heat to make it a little uncomfortable. Maybe you might be putting that 2 hour streaming movie on their stand instead of holding it. Even then I think we are talking about 10-13 degrees or so over the iPad 2. Nobody will get physically burned, possibly financially though. Anyway, it's a great "you're getting warmer" hide & seek game.
BTW: I own the entire cast of Apple Products. I hope they get out of this without forking over some of that $100 billion in assets. It would be a shame to see the per share price drop below $600.
I've used mine quite a bit since I got it last week and I have not experience this so-called heating up issue. Mine gets really good battery too - for some reason, it feels like it lasts longer than my iPad 2 battery which was really good to begin with. I've only charged it 1.5 times (1 full charge from almost zero and another from zero to around 45%).

apparently it takes extended playing of 3D games, something I haven't done with it yet
with general usage and some 2D games so far it's never gotten more than a bit hot, entirely comfortable to hold
